Three European gaming publications write articles about Acclaimed Video Games!
Following a Reddit thread that attracted a lot of attention last week, the gaming publications Jeuxvideo.com, 4P - Das Spielemagazin, and VGTimes all wrote articles covering Acclaimed Video Games. All of these articles were a joy to read. Jeuxvideo compared AVG to Metacritic, and 4P Das Spielemagazin wrote that AVG "will make all other best lists in the history of video games obsolete." It's a big honour to receive such high praise. Thank you to all of the writers of these articles. Feel free to reach out if you'd like to know more about the project (I only speak English though, sorry!).
You can read each of the articles in full here:
Jeuxvideo - Ce joueur a identifié les meilleurs jeux vidéo au monde pour établir le classement ultime
4P - Das Spielemagazin - Super-Fan steckt aus über 700 Bestenlisten eine gigantische Gaming-Liste mit unseren Lieblingsspielen zusammen
VGTimes - Составлен ТОП-1000 лучших игр на основе популярных рейтингов
Advanced filter page now allows filtering by game title!
Ever wanted to know what the most acclaimed Mario or Zelda games are over a specific time period? You can now set this as a custom filter on the advanced filters page. This is also where the "See all results ..." button on the search bar will take you. Use this if you want to see more than just the top five results. This should be useful for long running franchises such as Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Pokémon etc.
AVG now has 1000 games!
This latest update has been a huge task, and I'm excited to finally be sharing it with the world. A number of big lists have been added, including the massive 1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die; a new eligibility method is being used that is both region and platform sensitive; the website has been completely rewritten with numerous new features and improvements (still a bit janky on mobile); and the list now contains a full 1000 video games. However, as much as I want your attention here, in a sensible world, the only thing anyone would be talking about is Israel committing genocide in Gaza. No one would care even slightly about an update to a video game website. Please keep that in mind as you look around. And, when you're done, please consider joining, or helping, those who are fighting for peace. Thank you.
Solidarity with the people of Palestine
Content warning: genocide, torture.
In the months since Acclaimed Video Games' statement on Palestine, the situation for the people of Gaza has deteriorated even further. My news feed over the last few months has been a constant stream of the most horrific crimes imaginable: mass graves have been discovered in the ruins of two of Gaza’s hospitals containing evidence of executions, live burials, and torture; Gaza’s population is being intentionally staved to death by the blocking or destruction of essential humanitarian aid; Israeli whistleblowers have sounded the alarm about torture camps for captured Palestinians; aid workers, journalists, and medical staff have been intentionally targeted by Israeli forces; and, the IDF has now begun a brutal offensive in Rafah, home to more than one million internally displaced Palestinian civilians. This is a clear genocide, perpetrated by the Israeli state, with unflinching support from the US and other Western powers. Acclaimed Video Games stands in solidarity with the people of Palestine, and with the countless movements around the globe fighting for peace.
To those who still support Israel: Go away. You are not welcome here.
"Why don't you have copies of the actual lists on Acclaimed Video Games?"
I have considered it, but there are two reasons why I don't:
1) I don't want to take views away from the websites and magazines that originally published them. They did the work putting the lists together, so they deserve to have them viewed on their platforms.
2) I could only show the lists as as set of rankings, and I think that cheapens them. Publications deserve the opportunity to explain how and why their lists were made, as well as why each game was selected. These elements of the lists are important, but I could not host them here. So, for now, I will just provide links.
